FOLK MUSIC CANADA AT FAI 2017: Showcase line-up and more!

January 24th, 2017

Folk Music Canada is pleased to announce its activities for the 2017 Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, including showcases, a reception, business networking brunch and festival style workshops, all taking place under the banner of #FMCTopnotch.

Folk Music Canada is hosting more than 40 showcase performances, over four days at the conference’s host hotel. These performances will feature more than 35 artists from across Canada. The full schedule is available at, and on our Facebook event page.

We invite you to get to know all of our #FMCtopnotch showcasing artists through our SoundCloud stream here.

In a new partnership for #FAI2017, Folk Music Canada is partnering with Folk Music Ontario to present all-Ontario Thursday, where each showcase performance features an Ontario folk act.  This initiative is made possible by the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the SOCAN Foundation.

As well, Folk Music Canada is hosting 6 collaborative ‘in-the-round’ sessions, within the theme of ‘Crossing Borders’, pairing Canadian acts with artists from the United Kingdom and the United States. During these afternoon, round-robin presentations, 12  Canadians will share the stage with 10 international artists.  For 2017, Folk Music Canada has once again partnered with the English Folk and Dance Song Society to present two UK acts, Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage and Jake Morley.  The US artists featured will be: Sam Baker, Eve Sheldon, Giri and Uma Peters, Malachi Graham, Rachel Baiman and Sam Gleaves.

All ‘Crossing Borders’ artists can be previewed through our SoundCloud stream here.

Folk Music Canada is also partnering with the CIMA and all Canadian Provincial Music Industry Associations to host a business to business networking brunch, taking place on Friday morning of Folk Alliance. The event will bring together 50 Canadians music entrepreneurs with 50 international music business contacts to facilitate high-level, export-oriented business meetings.

For all news and updates about our events and artists, please follow Folk Music Canada on twitter @folkmusiccanada and include the hashtag #FMCtopnotch in all your social media about Canadian Folk performers during Folk Alliance.
